Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I have sensitive skin. Can I use your products?
A: Our primary goal is to make products that pamper your skin. We use only food grade vegetable oils and butters in our soaps and lotions. We color with natural oxides and micas and use only the finest natural plant essential oils and cosmetic grade fragrance oils. If you have a specific sensitivity, please let us know and we'll be happy to suggest products we think will work for you.

Q: What is the difference between your soap and the soap I can purchase at my local supermarket?
A: The soap you buy at your local supermarket isn’t actually soap at all. In fact, real soap is a glycerin rich, super moisturizing product that is produced when the natural oils we use come together with our lye solution (this is called saponification). Commercial soap companies remove the precious glycerin and sell it as a prized byproduct to high-end cosmetic companies. Commercial soaps are full of chemical additives, additives that not only dry out your skin, but can lead to rashes and other irritations. Commercial soap is rather a synthetic detergent, and while that may be great for your dishes it is terrible for your skin.

Q: Does your soap produce a good lather?
A: We have perfected our recipe and you will not find a more moisturizing, rich, luscious lather anywhere.

Q: Why is there lye in your soap?
A: Soap can not be made without lye. It is the base that saponifies the vegetable oils into a solid pure soap. All soap contains lye, especially those commercial brands you know so well. Even liquid soap uses lye. Bar soap uses sodium hydroxide, and liquid soap uses potassium hydroxide. There is no way around it. But don’t worry. Once the soap sits and cures for 3-4 weeks all of the lye is gone and it becomes the most gentle soap you’ll ever use.

Q: What is the difference between essential oils and fragrance oils?
A: Essential oils are all-natural oils which are derived from a variety of plants and flowers. Because not all fragrances are found in nature we also use fragrance oils which are, for the most part, synthetic but some also contain essential oils. We use only phthalate-free cosmetic grade fragrance oils that are made for use in bath and body products.

Q: How long does a bar of your soap typically last?
A: This will vary based on usage. All handcrafted soaps should be stored on a well-ventilated soap saver/soap dish placed in an area of the shower that receives minimal spray.

Q: Does LUX Naturals use any type of animal products in their bath and body line?
A: No. Here at LUX Naturals we use only vegetable oils and butters, and test only on family and friends, so you need not worry. All of our products are animal friendly.

Q: What’s the difference between soy wax and paraffin wax?

A: Soy is a renewable resource. It is a 100% vegetable by-product, not a petroleum by-product. Soy candles are non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. They produce 95% less smoke and soot than paraffin candles. They are an ideal choice for those who suffer from allergies and asthma and are safer for pets. They also burn 30-50% longer and cooler than paraffin candles.

Q: Why don't you add color to your candles?

A: We want our candles to have a natural, clean and sophisticated look that will go with any decor.

Q: Do you mail out free samples?
A: Due to the overwhelming number of requests for samples, we are no longer able to send out free samples of our products.

Q: Will I become addicted to LUX Naturals product line?
A: I’m sorry to inform you, but there is a good chance you will become completely dependent on our products for which there is no known detox available. So go ahead and indulge you deserve it!
